Falls & Balance Retraining
Heading 1 dolor sit amet
Exercise for Rehabilitation and Health is an industry leader in helping individuals prevent falls and the use of current evidence-based approaches to collaborate with clients to aid recovery and regain balance and confidence after a fall.
Assessment
We start with a comprehensive assessment and consultation with each client to best understand their medical and falls history and then move to objective assessment to measure:
- Balance (static and dynamic)
- Strength
- Gait
- Mobility
- Flexibility
We then discuss their ability to perform activities of daily living such as showering and making meals.
For our more elderly patients, we encourage a family member to attend their consultation.
For individuals with vestibular disorders, we collaborate with our colleagues from the the Melbourne Vestibular Clinic onsite.
Treatment
We design a ‘needs and goals’ plan in collaboration with the client to ensure their needs and goals are fully met, then initiate a treatment plan which may include:
- Supervised balance and strengthening exercises sessions
- Vestibular rehabilitation including BPPV treatment and BPPV exercises with one of our Physiotherapists
- Attendance at balance group (individually designed balance exercises in a group environment
- A home exercise program
It is important to us that rehabilitation plans are individualised, meet the needs of each client, include regular monitoring of progressions and are clearly communicated to each member of the health team including ENT specialist, GP, Occupational Therapist and Podiatrist.
